Frequently Asked Questions regarding Local Law 84:
1. How do I know if my building needs to be benchmarked for energy usage?
- Local Law 84 defines Covered Buildings as any building greater than 50,000 gross square feet, two or more buildings on the same tax lot that together exceed 100,000 gross square feet, or two or more condominiums with the same board of manager that together exceed 100,00 gross square feet.

2. What energy information is required in order to benchmark?
All energy usage by the entire building, including all direct metered tenants, for calendar year 2010 must be entered into the Energy Star Portfolio Manager (http://www.energystar.gov/istar/pmpam/).
3. What is the deadline for compliance?
All Covered Buildings must benchmark annually by May 1 in order to avoid penalties.
